Sharing the Joy of Learning
At Askern Moss Road Infant School we believe Physical education (PE) and Sport plays an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.
Through PE and Sport our children learn to develop the important qualities of discipline, resilience, communication, team work and ambition, leading to improved concentration, attitude and academic achievement.
We have welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding to improve provision of PE and sport and a healthy lifestyle in primary schools. We are committed to using this resource in developing high quality PE lessons, alongside greater opportunities for sporting and clubs for all our young people.
Funding for schools is calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual census in January of each academic year.
School Year 2016 – 2017 Funding £8,342.00
‘Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and Sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this’. (DfE June 2013)
At Askern Moss Road Infant School we have split up the funding by the three key areas for consideration:
Physical Education, Healthy Active Lifestyles and Competitive Sport.
We have previously worked closely with Active Fusion (www.activefusion.org.uk) and Doncaster Rovers to identify key areas to ensure we can meet the high expectations in PE and Sport for our children.
From September 2017 we are working very closely with Campsmount Academy. Each week a PE specialist visits Askern Moss Road Infant School to deliver high quality PE sessions to the children as well as providing CPD for staff and after school clubs. As a pyramid of schools we have an exciting range of competitions planned for throughout the year.
We are also continuing to develop our Sports Provision with the support of Doncaster Rovers and all staff are currently being trained in the use of a new scheme ‘Real PE’.
