Askern Moss Road Infant Academy

Curriculum Intent

At Askern Moss Road Infant Academy, our curriculum is designed to be broad, balanced, inclusive and ambitious, ensuring all pupils develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to thrive both academically and personally. At the heart of our curriculum are our ASPIRE values: Attitude, Support, Persistence, Integrity, Resilience and Effort, which underpin everything we do and equip our children with the attitudes and attributes needed for lifelong success.

We aim to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning, encouraging children to ask questions, explore ideas and engage with the world around them. Through positive attitudes to learning, perseverance and pride in effort, we enable pupils to become motivated, independent learners who develop problem-solving, communication, collaboration and teamwork skills.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced and progressive, enabling pupils to build knowledge across all areas of learning. Pupils develop secure foundations in reading, writing, mathematics and science, alongside the knowledge and skills needed to access and succeed across the wider curriculum. We encourage pupils to develop persistence and resilience, helping them to understand that learning takes effort, determination and a willingness to keep trying.

We place a strong emphasis on developing vocabulary, communication and oracy, ensuring children can express their ideas clearly, reason effectively and engage in meaningful discussion. Through a supportive environment where all voices are valued, pupils develop confidence and integrity in sharing their thoughts and opinions.

Our curriculum promotes spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, providing opportunities for reflection, respect and understanding of different beliefs, cultures and communities. Through subjects such as RE and PSHE, children learn about equality, diversity and British Values.

We ensure all pupils are supported and challenged through high-quality teaching and inclusive practice. We nurture resilience, independence, teamwork and wellbeing, while promoting high expectations for effort and behaviour. We also help children to make healthy and safe choices and to take responsibility for themselves and others.

We believe that learning extends beyond the classroom. We provide a wide range of enrichment, extra-curricular activities and experiences beyond the classroom that broaden children's understanding of the world, support their personal development and help them discover new interests. Through these opportunities, we aim to inspire curiosity, awe and wonder and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Ultimately, our curriculum enables children to ASPIRE: to develop the knowledge, character, attitudes and personal qualities needed to thrive in learning and in life beyond school, becoming confident, respectful, healthy and responsible individuals who are well prepared for the next stage of their education.
