At Askern Moss Road Infant Academy, we aim to equip our pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We recognise that technology is an important part of everyday life, and we want our children to develop the skills they need to use technology safely, responsibly and creatively.
Through our Computing curriculum, we aim to develop confident, independent users of technology who can embrace new technologies and use them in a socially responsible way. We want children to gain enjoyment from their computing experiences and develop the skills they need to become active and responsible digital citizens.
We want our pupils to become digitally literate and competent users of technology, while also developing creativity, resilience, problem-solving and critical thinking skills through Computer Science. We aim to provide children with a broad range of experiences that develop their understanding of technology and its impact on themselves, their community and the wider world.
Online safety is an important part of our Computing curriculum. We want children to understand how to keep themselves safe online, make responsible choices and know where to go for help and support when they have concerns.
We use the Teach Computing Curriculum to support the delivery of our Computing curriculum. Teach Computing provides a carefully sequenced progression of knowledge and skills.
Computing is taught through discreet Computing lessons. Our curriculum is mapped to the National Curriculum expectations to ensure appropriate coverage and progression. Knowledge and skills are carefully sequenced across topics and year groups so that children have opportunities to learn, apply and embed their understanding.
Online safety is embedded throughout our Computing curriculum and reinforced through age-appropriate learning, PSHE and wider school activities, including Safer Internet Day and assemblies. Children are taught how to use technology safely and respectfully, keep personal information private and recognise where to seek help and support.
Technology is used regularly across the school to support learning and provide children with opportunities to develop their digital skills. We ensure that our Computing curriculum is accessible to all pupils and that children are supported to become increasingly confident and independent users of technology.
