At Askern Moss Road Infant Academy, we aim to inspire a love of Art and Design and encourage all children to be creative. We want pupils to feel confident to explore, experiment and create their own artwork.
Our curriculum gives children opportunities to develop their skills, build on their interests and express their ideas about the world around them. Pupils learn about a range of artists, cultures and time periods, helping them to develop an understanding and appreciation of art.
We aim to provide rich and engaging experiences so that all children can enjoy, explore and take part in a range of artistic and cultural opportunities. We want children to develop confidence in their own creativity, make choices about their artwork and develop their own ideas.
We use Kapow Primary to support the delivery of our Art and Design curriculum from Reception through to Year 2. Kapow provides a carefully sequenced programme that enables children to develop their artistic knowledge and skills progressively as they move through the school.
In Reception, our Art and Design learning supports the EYFS framework, particularly the area of Expressive Arts and Design. Children are encouraged to explore colour, materials, textures, patterns and different techniques, developing their creativity and confidence through hands-on experiences.
As children progress into Key Stage 1, they build on this foundation through the Kapow curriculum. They have opportunities to explore a wide range of materials, techniques, artists and styles. Children develop their confidence in drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles and other creative techniques, while being encouraged to experiment, make choices, reflect on their work and develop their own creative ideas.
Our Art and Design curriculum is carefully planned to build on prior learning and ensure that children make progress throughout their time at Askern Moss Road Infant Academy. In Key Stage 1, our curriculum covers the National Curriculum expectations for the end of Key Stage 1.
