The curriculum is the totality of children’s learning experiences and is the means by which we achieve our objective of educating children on the knowledge, skills and understanding that they need in order to lead fulfilling lives.
The Moss Road curriculum is a carefully designed programme, which leads the children on a bespoke educational journey through the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage One.
We enhance the national curriculum through engaging activities with real-life links and active learning including Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) where possible. We have built a curriculum which lies at the heart of our school.
Through meticulous planning and a flexible approach to curriculum delivery, we are able to drive our intent, fulfil our aims and support our ethos for engaging, memorable learning.
At Moss Road, we place a strong emphasis on teaching the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics and we aim for our children to achieve the highest possible standards in these key areas of the curriculum.
Our curriculum reflects the individual nature of our school together with prescribed elements from the national curriculum. The needs and interests of our children drive what is happening in our school, with children's achievement levels the starting point for all curriculum planning.
In our bespoke curriculum, we utilise our own planning alongside some carefully chosen published schemes to enhance teaching in some foundation subjects. This way, we ensure rigorous coverage and implementation of substantiative and disciplinary knowledge in meaningful, age-appropriate ways at each stage through school.
This section of our website is focused on Moss Road's curriculum design as well as our approach to teaching and learning, the vehicle that will ensure that our pupils achieve their potential.

Our Curriculum Aims at Askern Moss Road Infant Academy
We believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop and build their confidence, independence and resilience to become lifelong learners.
We encourage our children to have high aspirations and strive for the best.
We want our children to be responsible citizens and effective learners by the time they finish their journey at our academy and move onto the next phase of their lives.
We strive to encompass as many curriculum areas into all learning, making them relevant and meaningful for our children.
We promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils.
We promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
There are three main components to our curriculum design:
1. The academic curriculum
2. Our personal development curriculum (ASPIRE).
3. Our focus on Moss Road's pedagogical principles to ensure our curriculum is effectively implemented.
Our Curriculum Key Drivers
Alongside teaching the requirements of the national curriculum, key drivers have been identified. We have prioritised the key skills and aspirations we want our children to experience and develop during their time with us. We use these 'drivers' to underpin the learning and experiences we undertake in all areas of school life and to ensure our curriculum offer is enriched. These key drivers are personal to our school and reflect the social and educational needs of our local area.
The following key drivers underpin our learning and are developed through the school.
Our six key drivers for our school curriculum are:
AMBITION The children will have the hope, desire or ambition to strive to achieve something. We want the children to be the best they can possibly be and to challenge themselves as learners.
SUPPORT- The children will show respect towards each other and everyone within the school community. They will demonstrate compassion and kindness, and celebrate and respect diversity.
PRIDE- The children will take pride in everything they do in school, be it academic learning , taking part in our co-curriculum and in their relationships with other, displaying good manner and courtesy at all times. They will also take pride in their environment, taking care of property and considering sustainability.
INDEPENDENCE- Our children will develop the like skills necessary to work with growing independence becoming resourceful problem solvers. They will be able to organise themselves, showing personal responsibility, initiative, creativity and enterprise. They will learn that actions have consequences and will make choices based on this awareness
RESILIENCE Our children will be equipped with the skills and resources to deal with challenges and barriers, developing emotional strength and the ability to be adaptable. They will develop the confidence to ‘have a go’.
ENQUIRY & CURIOSITY Our children will be eager to learn and become onfident to ask for information. We encourage the children to be curious about the world around them and ask questions.
